Lice and Blood Types of Their Hosts
We and the teams we worked with who tested our formula have learned a lot of interesting things about head lice in the process. It turns out that lice are very specific to blood type. If children in a family, group, class, etc. had the same blood type , the lice would go from child to child. However, if there was one in a family that had a different blood type from those the lice had already ‘visited’, those lice would avoid that person unless desperate for food. A US researcher informed us that if lice mix blood types from different ‘hosts’ it can cause their gut to explode and kill them.
Tracking Head Lice Movement Among Napping Children
A known specialist in the field of head lice testing from the University of Miami took a great interest in our formulation and how well it worked. She ran clinical trials which included several in vitro trials done in the Miami area where there were high infestations of head lice. As a point of interest, a test was set up to see how quickly lice went from child to child if they were sleeping or lying together closely.
Small children tend to lie on the floor, take a nap, share clothing and they’re very affectionate. The experiment began by having two children lie down next to each other with the head and feet directions reversed so they were lying in opposite directions. A colored spray was put on the hair of each child’s head so the lice could be identified as to which child they came from. After a short a few minutes the children were examined. From the different colors of the lice on both heads, it was obvious that in less than a few minutes the lice already had moved from one to the other. They’re very quick!
Clear Demonstration of Speed of Head Lice Infestation
Lice don’t fly or jump, they just run. Their claws are made in a way that they can hang on to the hair and very easily get a good grasp to run fast and far in a few minutes. The demonstration was amazing and clearly showed how fast infestation can take place from someone’s coat or hat in a coat closet or children playing or sitting together.
